On this day, 20 years ago, my line brothers and I crossed over and became men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. We are blessed to still have a strong bond and consider ourselves family. For each of us, being a brother of this noble organization has been a life changing experience and given us much. As well, each of us have given back to Sigma as brothers and men. Im proud of my sands, Carthel, who, since we crossed, has: served Sigma as a regional director of education, served in the military, added children to his family, started numerous businesses as an entrepreneur, earned an MBA, earned several financial licenses, has pastored his church, and has now begun a doctoral program. Im proud of my sands, Terence, who, since we crossed, has: been a school counselor for a decade and a half, earned a Master’s Degree, earned an administrative credential, added children to his family, earned a real estate license; started several ventures, been a fervent member of his church and their traveling choir, begun a doctoral program, and is currently chapter director of our Sigma Beta Club for Phi Beta Sigma chapter. In the time since I crossed, I have: served well, been brotherly, become a life member, had three terms as regional director of education, been endlessly active in Sigma at conclaves, regional events, and local functions…got married..plus picked up 2 Master’s degrees, an administrative credential, and a doctorate. I have also taught at my school 18.5 years and been on faculty at 6 colleges, universities and graduate schools. I only hope we have done those who made us and those who have invested in us within Sigma proudly by being men of character, service and accomplishment. We have our whole lives left as brothers in Sigma and brothers who see each other as family. The best is truly yet to come. We plan on having dinner next week to celebrate, so tonight Ill start the next 20 the only way I know how, by going to do the work of Sigma at our chapter meeting! Blue Phi.
