On this day, April 6, 1971, we experienced a snow storm; realizing that most of our neighbors were not young like we were, Joe Techau, Bill Techau, and I took up the good deed of shoveling not only our own sidewalk, but all those sidewalks nearby. Bill was so proud helping our friends and especially so when one woman invited the three of us in for hot chocolate. Mrs Green then inquired as to when my baby was due. Nonchalantly, I told her not for another 6 weeks. Well, I do firmly believe that soon-to-be born little miss had a mind of her own and decided that she truly must get out of that warm bed to see what in the world had been going on with all that shoving her about so. That evening, I took a warm bath hoping to calm the babe. Not to be done! Joe had already left the parsonage for a church board meeting when I called him saying that I thought hed better take me to Jersey County Hospital. Being a good son-in-law, Joe called my parents. My mother, being church treasurer back in Ohio was also in a church board meeting. Moms response, Shes not due yet. Then sat there for a bit when the impact of the message hit home. My mother and brother left out for Illinois drivng all night long so as to NOT miss the birth of our baby. Grandma made it in time to see our newly born baby girl on April 7, 1971, weighing in at 8 lbs. Donna Rae Techau came to give our family and the world a good token of Gods amazing surprises in all of life. Once borne, that bundle of joy continued to sleep for the rest of her 6 weeks and when her time to be borne came to be: awake she was! Ah, the joy of looking in on the baby while asleep wondering if she was breathing or not. Once my eyes met her eyes, shed squeal kicking her legs and giving a royal hurrah with her arms. Donna loved hiding and watching us go about the house trying to locate her. Once our eyes met, there went that royal sqeal again with all the pounding her heels and shaking her arms as she was utterly delighted. If you happen to know Donna, you realize that one of her lifelong accomplishments is to out wit the best, not only in humor but in logic as well. What a blessing she is! Thanks be to God! Happy birthday, tomorrow, dear daughter!
