On this day I pause to thank God for my father, Michael Corder Sr. It is his guidance, example, and his continuous presence in my life that has help shape and mold me into the man that I have become today. I greatly appreciate the seemingly simple things that he taught me: how to tie a tie, how to cook, how to fix a flat tire or change the oil of an automobile. But more importantly, he has always lived a life that modeled for me the importance of humility, how to truly listen before speaking, the importance of a strong work ethic, to not “label” others, but instead to take the time to better understand their stories, and how to not sweat the small stuff but to analyze the source of the problem. Time has taught me that the greatest lesson he ever modeled for me was the way in which he loves my mother; never overbearing, gentle, kind, able to listen and to compromise, and showing me that ALL healthy relationships are indeed PARTNERSHIPS. So much I have learned from a brother who became my father at the tender age of SIXTEEN, but who made the decision of committing to the tedious work of fatherhood. I am SIMPLY THANKFUL!
