On this day, In hiphop History: November 10th – Yaki Kadafi of Outlawz was found dead in a stairwell in an apartment building in Orange, New Jersey on this day in 1996. Kadafi, a lifelong friend of 2Pac Shakur’s, had been shot in the head. Kadafi, 2Pac and Mutah “Napoleon” Beale formed a group in 1994 called Dramacydal, who appeared on 2Pac’s 1995 album “Me Against The World”. In 1995, merging members from Dramacydal and Thug Life, another 2Pac group, formed the super-group Outlawz. The concept behind Outlawz, was to have group members take the names of controversial and historical political figures. Kadafi, who was born Yafeu Akiyele Fula took his name from the late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi. 2Pac became Makaveli after 16th century Italian politician Niccolo Machiavelli. Other members took names after other controversial leaders and political figures such as, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin Dada and Fidel Castro. Outlawz first appeared on 2Pac’s posthumous 1999 album “Still I Rise” which was credited to 2Pac + Outlawz. In 2000, Outlawz released the album “Ride With Us Or Collide With Us”. Outlawz have released five albums since with 2011’s “Perfect Timing” being the most recent. Outlawz have also appeared on countless mixtapes and digital releases. Outlawz have also released a collaborative album with dead prez called “Can’t Sell Dope Forever”. Kadafi’s only solo album “Son Rize Vol.1” was released in 2004 on Havenots Entertainment Records. Kadafi was murdered two months after 2Pac was gunned down in Las Vegas, Nevada.
