On this day, March 5, 1984 In Lynch v. Donnelly, the Supreme Court held that a city-erected Christmas display does not violate the First Amendment’s prohibition of government-established religion. As part of its holiday celebration, the city of Pawtucket, Rhode Island placed a Christmas display in its downtown shopping center , including a nativity scene depicting the birth of Jesus Christ. The Court ruled that such a display, viewed in the context of the holiday season, does not impermissibly advance religion or create an excessive entanglement between religion and government…I completely agree with this decision. Do you?
