On this day: One of the most cowardly attacks in military history took place when the Japanese Imperial forces attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. 2403 American personnel were killed. On hearing the news in the early hours of the morning in a blitzed London, Winston Churchill immediately phoned American President, Franklin D. Roosevelt to confirm the news. Roosevelt answered Churchill, Yes, Winston, we`re all in the same boat now. Upon being informed of the success of the Japanese attack, it`s architect, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said, I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve. And so it proved to be. This is the opening theme to the film `Tora, Tora, Tora.` It`s always been one of my favourite soundtrack themes.
