On this day in 1924: A Star Is Born Frances Gumms (Judy Garlands) official theatrical stage debut, at the age of two-and-a-half, at her fathers movie house, The New Grand Theater in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The Grand Rapids Herald-Review of December 24, 1924 had announced that the performance would feature Baby Frances, two years of age. Frances segment consisted of When My My Sugar Walks Down The Street which she sang with her two sisters (she would later record a version of the song for the Born In A Trunk segment of A Star Is Born that would be deleted prior to the films release); a tap dance routine; her first solo: Jingle Bells which she sang over and over until her father had to carry her off the stage! Years later Judy would comment that her love affair with audiences began at that point. Backstage, the toddler exclaimed I wanna sing some more! #judygarland #francesgumm #astarisborn #grandrapids #frankgumm #thejudyroom
