On this day in 1925 my dad was born in Gosport, Indiana. Throughout his entire life he had to contend with having this unusual name - Estil Glea Cradick Jr. His friends call him Es his parents called him junior. He worked hard his entire life, the majority spent self-employed in the business of advertising and newspapers. Either starting papers, owning them, managing them or consulting others who owned them. He was very well respected in his field and was a key note speaker at many industry conventions. He worked all the way into his late 70s and his mind was still very sharp. His curse seemed to be he was always a little too far ahead in his thinking about publishing. He started an Auto Trader idea about 10 years before the first auto trader came out. He started a shopper (ie; Penny Saver) about 10 years before the idea of shoppers was widely accepted in the market place. He would get so frustrated when people just didnt get it. Highly intelligent and always up on new technology, ie; he bought the very first Apple computer. He hated war, violence, racism and injustice to individuals. He was true to his convictions and didnt care if he was in the majority or not. After mom passed the last few years of his life were spent near my home and I was his daily caretaker as he suffered from kidney failure. His independence still came through even in his final days as he decided to quit the treatments since he still felt lousy all the time and could see things just getting worse. He quit the treatment and a few days later he went out on his own with the help of Hospice in October of 2006. He could sing like Sinatra and play the trumpet like Harry James. Was a great conversationalist had a very sharp wit and I was told women thought he was very handsome. I hope hes now resting in peace. Love ya dad and miss you.
