On this day in 1942 at 0653 Hessle Road lost 3 of its teenage heroes.The 3 were Fred Templeman 19,St Georges Road,Fireman serving on the Baltimore (USA) bound steamer Empire Wildebeeste in ballast from Hull.He was along with Robert owen Skelton 17 Harrow terrace,Harrow Street,Ordinary Seaman,and Richard Hammill 18,Albert terrace,Gillett Street,Sailor..They signed on in Hull with shipmates Charlie Wilson 16,Tanfield Grove,Galley Boy,Charles Breeze 44 Wilde Street Dansom Lane,Donkeyman.They were lost along with 4 others 34 were saved.. .We are indebted to their war time heroics going across the Atlantic in these old floating rust buckets. They were unfortunate to encounter the U106 East of New York which before its loss had accounted for 22 Allied ships with 4 damaged.
