On this day in 1953 two Cambridge University scientists James D Watson and Francis Crick published an article in Nature magazine, describing the structure of a chemical called deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA! The world changing discovery was the culmination of research by Medical Research Council scientists Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin in London, who produced X-ray diffraction photographs and other evidence and their discovery opened up many new technologies available today, including genetic engineering, stem cell research and DNA fingerprinting!
