On this day in 1969, exactly 45 years ago, the top-ranked Texas Longhorns defeated the #2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks in the Game of the Century in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Texas came back from 14-0 to win 15-14, scoring all of its points in the fourth quarter. The key play came with 4:47 left to play when Arkansas led 14-8. It was 4th and 3 and Texas had the ball on its own 43-yard line. Coach Royal called Right 53 Veer Pass, which resulted in a 44-yard pass from James Street to Randy Peschel. Texas scored two plays later and then Longhorn Kicker Happy Feller made the extra point to take the lead. Arkansas drove down the field on their next possession, but the result was sealed when Tom Campbell intercepted Razorback quarterback Bill Montgomery on the Texas 21-yard line with less than a minute left. President Nixon, who had attended the game with Texas congressman George H.W. Bush, awarded a national-championship to the Longhorns after the game.
