On this day, in 1976: Bob Marley is shot twice. Nesta Robert Marley, more widely and commonly known as Bob Marley, was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician. He remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience. On 3 December 1976, two days before Smile Jamaica, a free concert organised by the Jamaican Prime Minister, Marley was wounded in an assault by unknown gunmen inside Marleys home. Bob Marley received minor wounds in the chest and arm. Nonetheless, the concert proceeded, and an injured Marley performed as scheduled, two days after the attempt.
