On this day in.... 2011: Divas Halloween Battle Royal to determine the #1 Contender for the WWE Divas Championship, WWE Raw on October 31st, 2011. In August 2011, Beth Phoenix won a Battle Royal to become the #1 contender for the WWE Divas Championship, held by Kelly Kelly. When the Champion, congratulated the new challenger, the Glamazon turned and dropped Kelly, before throwing her against the barrier. A few days later, on Smackdown, Natalya did something similar to AJ Lee, declaring she was siding with Phoenix. But what was behind the change of attitude, and the creation of a Diva Duo known as the Divas of Doom?! It would be revealed that both Beth and Natalya were sick and tired of the way the Divas divsion was filled with Barbie dolls and perky little bimbos, and they were taking it upon themselves to sort this issue out, starting at the top, with Divas Champion, Kelly Kelly. While Beths first attempt to take the title failed at Summerslam, she kept at it, and claimed another title shot, which Kelly retained in again. But, it would be 3rd time lucky, as an assist from Natalya would help Phoenix overcome Kelly, and win the Divas Title for the 1st time. While Kelly used her rematch clause on Smackdown a few weeks later, she would be unsuccessful, and a short match ended with a GlamSlam helping Beth retained. With that match out of the way, Kelly would have to earn another title shot, and was given a chance alongside the rest of the Divas division as they would all take part in a Divas Battle Royal to determine the new #1 contender. Seeing as Raw landed on Halloween, it meant the Divas would be dressing up for the Battle Royal, and as an added attraction that night, The Muppets were in town to help promote their new movie!
