On this day in Kansas City sports history, for Sept 14th in 1869- Charles Kid Nichols was born today. A baseball Hall of Famer and pitcher for the Kansas City Blues. He played for KC in 1887, 1888, 1902-03. He won 361 games and had 7 seasons of 30 or more wins in his career. He also managed Casey Stengel in the Kansas City Amateur Athletic League in 1908-09. 1921- Bunny Brief of the Kansas City Blues hit his 36th homer of the season against Minneapolis, breaking the league record. 1986- Bo Jackson of the Royals hits the longest home run by a Royals player for the Royals (Kauffman) Stadium history at the time, at an estimated 475 feet, over the left center field wall. It was Bos FIRST career home run and it helped the Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 10-3. 1989- The Woodlands Horse and Dog Racing Track opens. 1998- The Royals become the fifth team in American League history to score in every inning. The resulting line score of 11311324 defeated Oakland, 16-6, at Kauffman Stadium. 1999- Mark Quinn of the Royals hits two homers in his FIRST MLB game, tied with others for MLB record. 2003- Dante Hall of the Chiefs made a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the first of four consecutive games TDs.
