On this day in MJ HIStory – 8 November 1995 MJ and Sony Corporation of America jointly formed the world’s third-largest music publishing company boasting more than 100,000 titles. Michael had purchased ATV Music Publishing for $47.5 million in 1985. The merger with Sony formed the Sony/ATV Music Publishing, which in 2012 acquired EMI Music Publishing. Sony/ATV is now the largest music publishing company in the world with over 2 million songs under management. As reiterated recently by Zack O’Malley Greenberg of Forbes and author of the book ‘Michael Jackson, Inc’ the catalogue continues to be the principal source of income for the Michael’s Estate and his beneficiaries.
