Combined with Jimmy Carters amnesty for Canadian deserters, the nation finally begins to heal from massive disruption of the Vietnamese War. 1983 - Federal government shut down. 1989 - Germans begin demolishing Berlin Wall, an iconic event in the progress of humanity. 44th US President Barack Obama 2012 - The final US presidential election results are declared after Barack Obama wins Florida to defeat Mitt Romney 332-206 in Electoral College votes.
