On this day in history some 26 years ago I was on tour with Kathie Baillie of Baillie and the Boys fame in Grass Valley, Ca. We were to be on the West coast for ten days and my KK/Caitlin Wilkerson, was due to be born in three weeks. We pulled in to the posh, 50s California style roadside motel just outside of Grass Valley and I went in to inspect the room that Miss Baillie would occupy as I always did. As I was standing at the front counter admiring the ceramic nick knacks the old rotary phone rang and I heard the lady say why yes, hes standing right here. It was my old friend Bill Simmons, (currently Brad Paisleys manager), calling to inform me that Marilyn Yawn Wilkerson was in labor. This started a sequence of events that led me to the fair grounds/race track where I spent the afternoon and evening scaling an 8 cyclone fence every hour on the hour to access a pay phone and call to see if my KK had been born yet. The setup, sound check and show came and went as my old friend Martin Sisk, of Michael Martin Murphy fame, stood at the helm mixing for me while I scaled the fence each hour. Finally KK, the Sweetsie Dancing Queen, made her grand appearance just as Michael Martin Murphy took the stage, And now you know the rest of the story. BUT wait, theres more!! Since I had missed KKs birth I decided to ride the rest of the tour out that held, constant nagging from Kathie, Davie fly home now, I cant believe you arent going the fly home, If I was Marilyn I would kill you, bus breakdowns, hitchhiking to the Little Rock airport, rental cars, and a all night drive home to finally introduce myself to the Sweetsie Dancing Queen. I am so blessed that you are my daughter and I wish my Baby Girl the happiest birthday ever! MOVE HOME!! I Love You, Dada
