On this day in music history: November 23, 1993 - The Sign, the debut album by Ace Of Base is released. Produced by Denniz PoP, Jonas Berggren, and Ulf Ekberg, it is recorded at Swemix Studios, Cybersound Studios, Cheiron Studios, Studios Decibell in Stockholm, Sweden, and Tuff Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden from Early 1992 - Mid 1993. Originally issued in the groups native Sweden and through the rest of the world as Happy Nation, the track listing is revised and the title is changed for the US market. The album is a huge worldwide smash for the Swedish quartet made up of siblings Jonas, Jenny, and Linn Berggren, and friend Ulf Ekberg. It will spin off four hit singles including All That She Wants (#2 Pop), Dont Turn Around (#4 Pop) and the title track (#1 Pop). The massive sales of the album will make the group the third most successful Swedish recording act in history (behind ABBA and Roxette), moving over twenty three million units worldwide. The Sign will spend two weeks at number one on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified 9x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
