On this day, one year ago, I embarked on what was the most biggest and influential experience of my life. 14 August 2012, I left for Basic Combat Training for the US Army. I was eager and hopeful for the new skills and the overall experience of how it would mold my life. At the same time, I was nervous and timid at the fact of meeting my drill sergeants and having them inches from my face yelling at me saying "i am a wasted sperm cell". I stayed strong and determined to overcome these obstacles and exceed my expectations of becoming a future soldier. The countless push-ups (regular and 8-count), mountain climbers, and the dreaded v-ups only made me stronger not only physically but mentally as well. A little over 9 weeks later, I graduated. No sooner did I graduate I was on my way to AIT for 10 weeks. I had grown accustomed to the hurry up and wait, strict time schedules, chow, formation, PT and all the other things that only made me stronger. I graduated AIT 23 January 2013 as an honor graduate in my class. Not only that, but I was also my battery Student First Sergeant. My motivation, determination, and persistence has been forever instilled in me to keep striving to be a better person and soldier. Tomorrow, I make another big step. I am moving up to Huntsville to attend SHSU and begin working on another important step in my life; school. Always strive to be better. Push yourself to new boundaries and heights that you never thought was possible. Impress yourself with the increased performance and motivation. What ever you do, do not give up. Though things may look bleak or difficult, just know that the reward is worth it. Stay motivated, and never give up.
