On this night (11/16) in 1967 ABC aired Episode #118: “Allergic to Macedonian Dodo Birds. Excerpt from THE BEWITCHED HISTORY BOOK (now 20% off at bearmanormedia with promo code BM13Thanks): Out of four stars I give this one ten! Frankly, it’s my favorite out of the whole series. I laugh EVERY time I watch it, something which I cannot say for the other episodes, which some are still funny but I know the jokes already. For some reason the jokes in this one still seem fresh as the day they were originally broadcast. I do have to say that the bird costume is ridiculous! Jim Henson, at that time, was already making big costume puppets such as the La-Choy Dragon that was used in many commercials. They should’ve hired him. Plus it looks nothing like what a Dodo Bird is said to have looked like, but on the other hand, it was from Tabatha’s coloring book so maybe it was just a cartoon looking bird, which this one was, and then that makes total sense. Agnes Moorehead should’ve been nominated on this episode alone for an Emmy! It’s practically perfect in every way! The whole scene out on the patio is simply hysterical what with the “Durwood, help me!” Durwood: “I might help you if you used my correct name.” Endora: “Oh…what was it?” Durwood: “DARRIN!” Endora: “Oh yeah, that’s right…Dennis? Straighten my pillow.” And of course, “He HATES me! I shall have to live out my life in a CLIMATE of hatred!” And then when she dabs her eyes with the quilt, oh man, Aggie is awesome!
