On this somber day, let us remember the 2,977 people who perished during the worst terrorist attack in United States history. May we forever hold in our hearts the memory of those individuals and may we continue to honor the bravery and selflessness shown by thousands of our own on that day. September 11, 2001 was a turning point in our nation’s history that tested our limits but also demonstrated the solidarity and perseverance of the American Spirit. In 2009, Congress declared the anniversary of the September 11th attacks a National Day of Service and Remembrance to establish a tradition of engaging Americans in charitable acts and to serve as a testament to the solidarity of our nation. As a tribute to the victims and survivors of the attacks, Americans unite in service in the same remarkable way they did 13 years ago today. Let us all find a way to give back, even if it is just through a small act of kindness. Sincerely, William R. Spencer, M.D. Suffolk County Legislator 18th Legislative District
