On this, the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, we thought wed share a real treasure: a complete, nearly two-hour concert from Louiss historic Iron Curtain tour of March 1965, playing the Friedrichsstadt Palast in East Berlin. This was his first time there and though one could hardly find a Louis Armstrong recording in East Berlin at that time, he was greeted and treated as a hero; watch for the extended ovations at the end. All the hits are here (Hello, Dolly!, Mack the Knife, Blueberry Hill), plus some stirring horn work (Royal Garden Blues, Indiana, Struttin with Some Barbecue), features for all the other All Stars and possibly the most emotionally charged rendition of Black and Blue from his entire, storied career. Dont go anywhere for two hours today and just bask in the glow of Americas Ambassador of Goodwill, spreading happiness and great music wherever he went.
