On this wonderfully warm Saturday morning at Canyon Ridge Mobile - TopicsExpress

On this wonderfully warm Saturday morning at Canyon Ridge Mobile Home Park, we are joined together with CSFD Fire and Safety Educators/Inspectors, CAPS (Community and Police Services) volunteers, and the Fire Explore volunteers to help service, inform and educate the residents in this small community as well as install as many smoke alarms as possible. The goal is also to press the importance of fire safety in the home. Data has shown that properly working smoke alarms can double the chances of survival. The smoke alarms which are being installed today are “hi-tech”, per Sunny Smaldino, CSFD Community Services Supervisor, as they detect a specific “ion” which the flames set off a are specific to the flames of a home fire. This is just one example of how important it is not to only have smoke alarms but to also make sure your smoke alarms are working properly. Many residents within the community were curious of the commotion in which the firefighters’ presence had made and this brought people over to the tables and booths. One of the residents, Stewart Carney being curious himself was able to be educated by speaking with Red Cross volunteer Jeff Leppo (pictured), therefore was able to walk away informed and with three smoke alarms and the know how to install them properly. The day was a great success! Next Saturday we hope for the same at the next location. This is a multi-year project.
