On to #2 in our “reasons to use a liner” list…Is your child sensitive to wetness? Or would you just like to keep them feeling dry all night long or during their naptime? Then you need a stay-dry liner. There are many stay-dry liners on the market that sell for about $1 each. Or you can make your own by cutting up microfleece or athletic wicking material (sport jersey material). These materials wick the moisture away from the skin into the absorbent material of the diaper and leaves baby’s skin feeling dry. Just cut them to the size of an insert or you can get fancy and make them contoured (like an hourglass shape) to cover more area - no sewing necessary as they wont fray. You can buy microfleece or sport jersey material at fabric stores or even stores like Walmart. Or if you have some old fleece PJs or blankets or old sport jersey material workout clothes that you dont use anymore, try upcycling those! Just test it first by dropping a bit of water on it to make sure the water soaks through and doesn’t just sit in a blob on top - some fleece is water repellant (e.g., blizzard, windpro, anti-pill) and some fleece is wicking (microfleece). And if you use fabric softener on your clothes or blankets you may need to wash them a time or two without fabric softener to wash it all out before you test, otherwise you may see repelling due to the softener buildup. What’s your favorite brand of stay-dry liner or if you make your own what do you use? My favorite is the Imagine brand – I found it to be a more generous size and a bit thicker and softer than some other brands. I also made my own from microfleece yardage.
