Onam celebrated at Ravindra Bhavan, Sakhali Posted by: Navhind Times in Goa News NT NETWORK SAKHALI: Onam the harvest festival of Kerala was celebrated with enthusiasm by Keralites living in Goa at the Ravindra Bhavan, Sakhali, on August 24. The Sakhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant said, the Onam festival brings joy and happiness to Keralites who have adopted Goa as their residence and contributed immensely to the state. The Onam festival was organised by FAGMA in association with the Directorate of Arts and Culture. Pundalik Naik was the guest of honour. Ravishankar, president, Federation of All Goa Malayali Associations, K K Prakasan, general secretary, FAGMA, Ajithkumar, treasurer, FAGMA, T Natarajan, vice president, Kerala Samajam, Panaji, Vasu Nair, president Kerala Samajam Vasco, Vasudevan Nair, vice president, Kerala Cultural Association, Vasco, Reji Cherian, president Goa Malayala Cultural Association, Ponda, Sasidharan Gopal, president, Kalpaka Cultural Association, Bicholim, Joseph Mathew, president Kerala Sangamam Margao, Chacko, president Kerala Samajam, Cortalim, Vijayakumar B Nair, president, Kairali Cultural Association, Calangute, P N Sivashankaran president, Progressive Arts and Cultural Association, Curchorem and others were present for the function. Speaking on the occasion Pundalik Naik was all praise for the unity of the Malayali community in maintaining their cultural identity. He lauded the efforts at bringing together the cultural heritages of Goa and Kerala by organising such meets during the festive occasion. The All Goa Pookalam (flower rangoli) competition was held in which 12 teams vied for top honours. The prestigious FAGMA trophy sponsored by The Navhind Times was won by Kalpaka Cultural Association of Bicholim through their winning team led by Shabind Chandradas. The second prize sponsored by Goa Malayali News and 1st runner-up trophy was bagged by Taleigao brothers’ team led by Biju Kumar. The 3rd prize and 2nd runner- up trophy was bagged by GMCA, Ponda led by Rossy Mohandas. The cultural programmes showcasing Kerala’s typical festive art forms like Thiruvathirakali, Mohiniyattam, Oppana, Margamkali, Vanchippattu etc. and musical audio visual presentations were performed by talented artists drawn from FAGMA’s member associations
