Once A year for an entire week you will see me and all of my sisters running on next to no sleep, zero voices left, and spending every second out of class finding stuffed animals and hats. This may seem like a silly week to most people and a waste of time that should be spent studying but what people dont realize is that we do all of this for a truly deeper cause. In 2014 #uottawaalphaphi won their second #DerbyDays title (formally Kappa Zeta Psi) although yes this is a huge accomplishment and proud moment for my sorority, it means so much more than just being number 1. Our competitive, passionate, and determined nature drove us to excel in various fundraising and philanthropic team work activities. These activities then led us to giant he most points in Sigma Chis Derby Days. So what you might say? By winning this week long competition we were able to split the total amount raised and hand over a cheque for $1300 to Harmony House this morning. In the past we have provided harmony house with new personal hygiene items to distribute, senator tickets which allowed a single mother to bring her sons to an NHL game, and various other financial donations. I could not be more proud to be apart of an organization that values sisterhood and service as much as Alpha Phi does. So when you wonder why us #Sororitygirls waste our time choreographing dances, crafting banners, selling baked goods, yelling while collecting change, and running around like mad women please understand what the title of #DerbyDays Champion actually allows us to accomplish. #Sigmachiderbydays #Sorority #Fraternity #Greek #Philantrophy #Alphaphi
