Once I was invited to speak to a group of Form 5 and Form 3 - TopicsExpress

Once I was invited to speak to a group of Form 5 and Form 3 students before their formal examinations. The school Parents and Teachers Association has organised this special session and I was honoured to be invited to speak to them. What made it really special was the students parents were also present, besides their teachers! There was one segment during my talk that I still remember! I was telling them, that we all need appreciation to make us strong, confident and well prepared before facing the examinations. I also told them that appreciations could come in many forms and many ways. One of them however was a simple hug! With that I asked the students to hug themselves, meaning just wrap their arms around themselves, not hugging each other! I asked them how they felt. They said good! Then I asked them to hug their parents! Everyone was stunt. Almost no one moved! I have expected it. So I told them, besides getting blessings from our parents, we must also show our appreciations. One simple way to do it was just to hug them and say thank you. Then slowly, the students went towards their parents and hugged them. It appeared weird to many. Some look stiff. Then more and more huggings, in the public of course! Soon, many people, parents and students were seen weeping away with tears. They did not let go of their hugs but instead holding each other even closer. It was a very emotional scene. Despite expecting such a scene, I was still moved to tears seeing them. I saw the school principal and teachers wiping their tears away too! Well, it took quite a while for everyone to calm down again. Then I asked them if those appreciations were good enough to make them do their best during the examinations? Everyone answered with a very resounding Yes! Life Lesson 101: Our first sign of love since birth was a hug!
