Once Upon a Time: a scarytale of 2 cities Before there was a Tourism District there was a Northside...we were a thriving community with multiple super markets, movie theaters, nightclubs and restaurants, small businesses and homeowners, The boardwalk and all the hotels, an amazing city owned convention hall that housed thousands of shows, Political Conventions and exhibitions were places where the workforce made a living... along with two airports one private and another city owned along with the trains that came from north and west, the bus that came twice a day became avenues for people to come and relocate here to work, Moving forward AC was a thriving community that faced some economic challenges felt across the nation...then in hopes for better opportunities the concept of Casinos were brought to the table. Legislation was voted on based on a promise to minimize tax burdens of the state and surrounding community and more new development to bring affluent spenders to the shores of AC creating money making opportunities for everyone, least that was the pitch. Little did folks know how there were consequences that came with Casinos and the influx of gamblers that came with hopes and addictions. Politicians supported the concept without fully understanding what was to come so they didnt plan better. State Politicians stripped the city of Room Tax, Luxury Tax, and Parking Tax and sent them to fund other agencies created to benefit others throughout the state under the guise of convention and sports. The ownership of the Convention Hall and the Airport was also circumvented and placed in the hands of others as well...virtually stripping the city of more revenue. Some got lost in the millions and made bad choices landing some in jail...Moving forward...As more focus went into the individual companies and how to keep visitors coming to AC and staying in their properties..campaigns to reinvent them came to life...from Hotel casinos to Casino resorts...a sign of what was to come...Moving forward>>> De Regulations took place and the Casino Control Commission was slowly and effectively dismantled down to a skeleton crew to overlook revenue and business practices to ensure the industry complied with law...the law...that soon after was changed to allow for Casinos to contribute in political campaigns...that also created an entity to take in money from parking to fund redevelopment in casinos and areas outside...and purchase land in the city at pennies on the dollar without having to pay taxes for those properties becoming the largest land owners on the books in AC....moving forward the people of AC were mislead and opportunities are being stripped from the hard working people of AC and the surrounding community...business deals are being done by hedge funds and C.E.O.s in spite of the lives they impact... Now the Time Line may not be exact and but what had occurred certainly was. Although this was Once Upon a Time, the Time is now to help AC get back on track to where we once was...Americas Favorite Playground. Governor Chris Christie has arranged a Summit this coming Monday September 8th from 12 noon to about 2 pm....WE THINK, to discuss the future of AC and has invited a specific and deliberate population of people, that we think are people willing to receive their marching orders and further their plan to dismantle the gaming industry, tax out the residents who call AC home so they can walk away or sell their homes at pennies on the dollar allowing for someone in the shadows to come and buy up all the land from under us... GENTRIFICATION IS HAPPENING...IF WE ALLOW IT. Lets come together as one and let them know how we feel. 15 South Pennsylvania Ave, Atlantic City NJ
