Once a five year old was given a glass half full of water and asked whether it is half full or half empty, he retorted, it depends on whether you are filling it or emptying it Exactly my friend, you would compare your situation with others depending upon how you see your own situation. My point of view is if you compare your situation with sadder stories of other people, consciously or subconsciously you are bringing stagnancy in your life. You are just pretending to be happy. Sometimes, it works to pretend that you are happy, but not in long run. Your source of motivation is negative in this case. So, you would naturally be motivated to prevent situation from getting worse than ameliorating it. There is real joy of living if something is missing. The day you got everything will be the last day of your living. Thereafter, you would just exist. On the other hand, if you compare your situation with the inspiring stories of others, you would get positive motivation. And most importantly, you would get hope. Hope is all you need at this point and can only be got if you look at people doing better than you and not from sadder stories.
