Once a man spread rumors that his neighbour was a thief. As a result, the young man was arrested. Days later the young man was proven innocent. After being released he sued the man for wrongly accusing him. In the court, the man told the Judge: They were just comments, didnt harm anyone. The judge told the man: Write all the things you said about him on a piece of paper. Cut them up and on the way home, throw the pieces of paper out. Tomorrow, come back to hear the sentence. Next day, the judge told the man: Before the hearing starts, go out and gather all the pieces of paper that you threw out yesterday. The man said: I cant do that! The wind spread them and I wont know where to find them. The judge then replied: The same way, simple comments may destroy the honor of a man to such an extent that one is not able to fix it. If you cant speak well of someone, rather dont say anything. Passing comments about others have several disadvantages: 1. The danger of becoming slaves of our words we uttered. 2. Losing respect because of attempted character assassination. 3. Not being sure of right or wrong strengthening the chance of falling in the category of liars. 4. Fueling the negative trait of own personality which becomes of character in the long run.
