Once a week my daughter Lyla goes to a fellow Family Day Carer on - TopicsExpress

Once a week my daughter Lyla goes to a fellow Family Day Carer on a day that I usually care for other children in my home. It is a time where she gets to be her own person in a small safe environment. She is there to learn that it is okay to extend her friendships without me. To experiment with the social etiquette that my husband and I have taught her and to learn that each environment has it own set of rules and responsibilities. She has learnt that she can be apart of wider community family just like the children in my care do. The government is taking all of this beautiful learning away from my daughter. Because I work in the Family Day Care sector Lyla cannot be in care with another family day care operator on a day that I work. This is discriminating against my daughter because of the career choice of her mother. How dare they take this opportunity away from her when other children get to experience the rich learning opportunities that only Family Day Care can provide. If I wanted my child in a centre based care facility I would have put her into one. This has taken away my right as a parent to educate my daughter in the way that I see fit. How dare they. Below is a link to an online petition against the change in this law.
