Once again, I am in general agreement with Mr. Reich regarding the state of our infrastruture, and the growth in employment (and lives potentially saved) its repaiir would bring about. But Im afraid, I must play the devils advocate here re: his assertion that we simply borrow the money to put such a program into action. The reason US borrowing costs are at near historic lows is because the US is viewed now with such disdain and uncertainty among so many former allies and so many potential allies AND because of our aggressive and perpetual war policies. We are in such ghastly arrears to our lenders - chief among them, China - that otherwised friendly nations are lending more cautiously to us than ever. BUT, it gives one some hope to know that there ARE a few members of our Congress and Appropriations committees who are valiantly working to oppose the profligate majority of Hawks and greed-monger which over the past several administrations have done such damage to our nation both financial, reputationaly, structurally, and morally.
