Once again, profit over the environment... when does it end?! As the military-industrial complex seeks to profit on global warming and new trade routes through the melted arctic, Earth is even more at risk. Construction starting 12/22/14 on Nicaraguas interoceanic Grand Canal and what does it involve? Dredging millions of tons of earth from land and the lake bed, displacing tens of thousands of people, steam rolling over the indigenous people, and polluting the water of Lake Nicaragua which just happens to be the water supply of the nation. Studies regarding the environmental and social impact of the undertaking dont exist. The Nicaraguan government (the former Socialist revolutionaries who took back the land for the people but apparently not for the Indigenous peoples and non-human species) states that this project will create jobs for an extremely impoverished nation, with no exact number on these jobs, and with the likelihood they will be filled by Chinese nationals. Like the XL Pipeline, the risk is awfully high and the industrial double-talk rampant. Do you live in Nicaragua? Or will you be travelling there?
