Once again the State of NC has shafted Stanly County as far as highway expansion is concerned. Stanly County is the ONLY county in the greater Charlotte area that does not have a 4 lane highway stretching from one side of the county to the other. 52 is 4 lanes from just south of Albemarle to the hwy 49 intersection in Richfield, while 24/27 provides 4 lanes all the way to Charlotte. Concord and Salisbury are connected to Charlotte thanks to I-85. Both areas enjoying the boom of business and job expansion. Without a major transportation corridor, Stanly County will suffer economically. Businesses will continue to expand or build where they can move goods and recieve supplies quickly and efficiently. 740 should be 4 laned from Albemarle to Badin and possibly Badin to New London to provide future businesses at the Badin Business Park access to 24/27 and US 52. The Albemarle Stanly County Airport should be better accessible considering Albemarle Correctional Institution and the NC Air National Guard are all in the same general area. You never can tell, in the future there may be a need for daily short commuter flights to Charlotte shuttling business executives. Let the DOT know Stanly County needs better transportation means in order to compete economically.
