Once again watching the CNN Sixties. I cant seem to get enough of it. I turned 16 in December 1960, so this was the decade that I first began to discover the world around me. And once again, Im struck by seeing it from this point of view. The sixties was an amazing decade, a pivotal point in my life and in the nation. I cant imagine a better time to come of age. I would love to go back in time and take it in moment by moment or to be able to talk to my parents and find out what they were thinking and feeling about the changes going on around them. Neither, of course, is a possibility. My parents never talked to me about world events, and I was sheltered from so much that was going on until I left home. It is quite seeing the old news footage and snippets from the TV shows I watched back then rather than reading about it in books. It was such a time of painful growth for the country. By comparison, I wonder how people will look back on this time because we seem to be living through a similar pivotal point now, at least politically. Will we move forward or regress. I hope the people do not allow us to move backward.
