Once again we are seeing new bogus fees being charged to hotels on their credit card merchant statements! It doesnt seem to matter if the hotels are using their banks credit card processing or a different provider. We have seen a new interchange fee packing 0.25% pure profit, and this was on a high volume statement! This is a huge bonus for the provider, and is nothing short of greed! It is vitally important to have a fresh review performed on two consecutive months merchant statements that were received in May and forward.The unfortunate thing is that the hotels have no idea as to which charges are mandatory charges and which ones arent, as they are never provided with the inside information from the card issuer such as Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. So, this presents a dilemma! Since the hotel has no way of knowing this information, they are at the mercy of their provider! Most hotels feel they have either a good or sometimes a great relationship with their account rep or bank, and dont choose to believe that they would ever charge them more than necessary. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Everyone has to make a profit in order to make a living, but sometimes companies charge more than is really needed. It is so important to have a review provided by a third party who will be honest with the hotel and let them know what is really happening with the account! When we at APS perform reviews for hotels, if everything is in order, we let the hotel know that they dont have anything to be concerned about at the present time. But they need to have a review done every six to twelve months, preferably in May or November. If we find that the hotel is losing money, we will let them know where they are losing it as well as why, and how much. There never is a cost or an obligation for American Payment Solutions to do a review for any hotel!
