Once again, you are telling the voters of Wake County, 1 million strong, that you know better than we do what our priorities are, Stein said, and youre wrong. Thats what I said last night at 12:30 in the morning after Sen. Bob Rucho brought back to life a local sales tax bill that gives greater flexibility to 98 counties in the state. For two counties, however, -- Wake and Forsyth -- it effectively strips them of 1/4 cent of existing authority. Sen. Dan Blue also spoke forcefully against the measure, only to have Sen. Rucho tell Sen. Blue that he should be happy and proud that Wake got screwed. I then told Sen. Rucho that hes as comfortable telling Sen. Blue how he should be feeling as he is telling the people of Wake County how to govern themselves. There is no end to the micromanaging and usurpation of local control by this Republican legislature. It must come to an end. Only the voters can make that happen.
