Once in a while, a very long while, a song comes on the radio and it totally grips you. Its the first time youve heard the song and yet you feel that the music is speaking directly to *you*. I had one of those moments with this song, which came on the FM dial many moons ago as I was speeding down the Eisenhower Expressway on Chicagos West Side, with the red beacons on the top of 110-story Sears Tower beaming at me at regular intervals. The beacons are a familiar sight, yet they always exude that air of big-city-bright-lights kind of indifference. Then this song came up, and I was so taken aback by the song I had to take the nearest exit, find a pay phone at a gas station in the barrio (yes, that was before the days of cell phones), call up the radio station (the Loop is the name of it), ask to speak to the DJ, and demand to get the name of the song and its artist. And here it is......
