Once upon a time, a new widow and her four children were approached by a family member asking for a leg up via purchase of a truck or delivery van. Feeling compassion for her brother who had suffered a disability, she finally relented to the idea of taking out a loan to purchase the best van they could find, paid off his debts, put funds into a joint account, and hired an attorney to incorporate their new little business venture. The brother then proceeded to insist on one costly addition to the outfit after another, consuming the entirety of the loan as well as money out of the widows own pocket to satisfy his demands. Hearing sob stories of sitting in the van during blizzard conditions and other hardship stories of the job, at his insistence she agreed to pay him $200.00 per week if he at least picked up one load to deliver. This guaranteed him a weekly income for minimal effort, but she expected that he, like herself, would strive to do his best and earn at every opportunity. Sadly she misjudged his motivation and soon discovered he was turning away jobs and driving only one trip weekly to earn his minimum. He had agreed to repay the funds spent on his behalf at the rate of $1000 a month, as that was what the widow was required to repay monthly to the bank for the loan she had taken out. After nine months, she discovered he had only repaid $4000 of her total outlay of about $30,000. Rather than being ashamed of his unfaithful behavior, the brother began demanding a carte blanche credit card, excusing his failure to accept loads due to the inconvenience he may encounter in waiting for an occasional wire transfer to cover expenses while out on the road if he ran out of funds given him before the trip began. He confronted his sister with the threat that he was parking that van, upon which so many dreams and promises had resided, until she came through with this credit card for him to use. In the end, he advised her to find another driver because he no longer needed nor had any interest in the business for which he had pleaded nearly a year before. The widow ended up having to sell off other investments, upon which her household relied, to pay off the loan and take back the van that had been used only for personal purposes in recent months by her unrepentant relatives. Subsequently she was ostracized from all future family reunions and occasions including funerals to prevent others from ever realizing how they had defrauded the widow in their midst about whom they had lied to prevent all others from ever associating with her again. So she and her children had no one but each other, an occasional kind stranger and their faith in God from that point on. In retrospect, this is the same sort of situation in which we find ourselves today in dealing with society and the American government. Many of us mean well as citizens. We want to help our brothers and sisters. But once a set rate is established, and demands met time and again, the bar is raised and becomes harder and harder to meet until it becomes an impossible burden upon the ones guaranteeing the gifts. The reason for this is there are takers and there are givers in our society. The takers assume the guise and mix in with those truly in need like wolves in sheeps clothing and drain the system to bankruptcy. Then, to add insult to injury, as was the case with the widow, who was subsequently slandered and lied about by the relatives who took advantage of her charity, the taxpayers are held in contempt. The producers, the small and large business holders are ridiculed and, as with the Ferguson incident, burned and plundered. There is little to no appreciation for the hand outs. Some people will never appreciate what is sacrificed on their behalf. Some few will. But when you put this scenario into nationwide effect, you lose in a trillion dollar way. Who will be there for the regular citizen once the last over-regulated, unappreciated job in America has been shipped overseas or replaced by a robot and the national debt crashes down upon all?
