Once upon a time, at the old A&M Studios, I dropped in to listen to an old friend track drums. This particular night, I had no idea what session Kenny Aronoff was working on. When I arrived they were in the lounge on a dinner break. I sat next to a gentleman who kind of reminded me of Santa Clause. It wasnt because of the belly, overalls or the St Nick hair. It was because he was so warm and so sweet. He insisted I break bread with him. I couldnt say no so we shared his dessert. All the while he explained the care of and history of the fish in the lounge. He was so knowledgeable I thought he might be a fish guy who maybe had taken care of A&Ms tanks for decades. When the break was over we went into the studio and this man began to sing. Arms thrown back, belly thrust forward and head tilted to one side, he wailed like no one else before the mic. Standing in a room while Joe Cocker is bellowing sent chills up my spine!! Guess he wasnt the fish guy lol. Rest in peace kind sir. Thanks for sharing your tiramisu with me.
