Ondo PDP ex-commissioner, others deny defection report More members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, whose names were listed among those alleged to have defected to the opposition party on Tuesday, have come out to debunk the claim. The state publicity secretary of the party, Mr Banji Okunomo had, on Wednesday, displayed a letter written to the party by one of the supposed defectors, Mr Segun Adagunodo, popularly known as Santana, denying his reported move. A former commissioner in the state, whose name was also mentioned as having defected, Chief Akin Akingbesote, also denied the defection report. Speaking with newsmen at the PDP secretariat in Akure, on Wednesday, the former Commissioner for Commerce denied the allegation, saying at no time did he discuss with anybody that he was going to leave the party. He added that he was embarrassed by the report and thus urged his followers to disregard the information, which he attributed to the handiwork of desperate politicians. Adagunodo had stated that he never at any time contemplated leaving the party, even as he vowed to take appropriate action to know why and how his name got into the controversial list. The publicity secretary also said that some members of the party, whose names were also mentioned in the list have visited the party’s secretariat to refute the claim adding that most of the names on the list are those of absentees, who at various times held political positions in the state, either as commissioners and aides at various levels. The party added that the politicians affected reside outside Ondo State and only visit periodically and that they do not in any manner attend Party meetings either in their Wards, Local Government and State levels and neither are they financial members of the Party. “In fact their association with the party began and ended since they left government, they never had any relationship with the Party and therefore, it is instructive to declare that their membership of the Party have since lapsed since they are occasional politicians,” it said. “Again we declare that they lack any strength, influence and capabilities to threaten or harm the chances of the Party in the next election, they are masquerades that will merely dance and thrill their audience, thus to conclusively put it, they are absolutely impotent politicians that have consistently remained excess baggage to us.” Source: Tribune Newspaper
