Ondo state PDP elects Ogunye as chairman, tell Mimiko to respect the law Sequel to the resignation of the Ondo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ebenezer Alabi, yesterday, the remaining members of the executive have elected another chairman in person of Mr. Olu Ogunye. Alabi resigned as the state Chairman of the party at the meeting of the National leaders of the party in Abuja yesterday. Ogunye, was unanimously appointed at the meeting of the party held at the residence of one of the leaders of the party in the state, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim at Igbotako town in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state. According to the new Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mr. Gani Muhammed, the Exco has acted in line with the constitution of the party. Muhammed, who spoke shortly after the meeting, said, “We have done the right thing under the constitution of our great party. You know our party has a 49-member executive in Ondo State. I am talking about the Exco that is recognised by law. “The law states that once the party chairman or any member of the Exco resigns, the other members of the party would sit down and replace him or her according to the level of the Exco. If it happens at state level, the State Exco will do the replacement. If it is at Ward level, the Ward Exco will do the replacement. That is what Chapter 6, Section 47, Sub-section 6 of the PDP constitution (as amended) states. “ So today (yesterday ), that is what we did at Igbotako and our new Chairman is Dr Olu Ogunye from Ondo Central Senatorial District.” On the leadership crisis of the party, the Publicity Secretary declared that the party would still win the forthcoming general election irrespective of the differences among the members of the party. He called on the State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, to respect the law in order to give peace a chance in the party. Other members of the State Working Committee, SWC, who resigned their positions were also replaced. The new Exco members are Honourable Ore Olowomeye, Financial Secretary, Mr. C. O. Akingbohun, Legal Adviser, Mr. Ogunmakin Marvelous, Assistant PRO, and Mr. Tunde Muje, Auditor. At the meeting, the leaders of the party charged the new chairman and other members of the executive committee to go ahead with the conduct of the national assembly primaries holding today. While expressing their determination to defend the constitution of the party, the leaders urged all the aspirants to participate in today’s primary election. Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, while addressing the gathering, admonished members of the party not to entertain any fear, saying the law was on their side. He also charged all the aspirants and leaders of the party to go and prepare for a prolonged legal battle.
