One ALP-authorised billboard features a photo of Mr Wilkie shaking hands with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and the line: 'If Andrew Wilkie wins Denison, Tony Abbott is one seat closer to becoming Prime Minister.' In a letter to Mr Rudd, Mr Wilkie said the ads implied he would make a deal with Mr Abbott after the September 7 election to install him as prime minister, even though he had ruled out preference deals and promised not to support any party to form government. 'To imply I would act contrary to what I have stated publicly is to imply I have lied. This is dishonest and defamatory,' Mr Wilkie wrote.
