One Day International Seminar on “Realizing Human Potential in the Service of Society and Country: Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’s Concepts in Economics and Development” which was held on 13th February, 2011 (Sunday) at “Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts” building, Machkhowa, Guwahati, Assam. [[ Technical session II and III were held in parallel sessions to save time. Since I had to be in the technical session III, I could not be present physically in the technical session II. Similarly, I was not present fully in the technical session IV because I had my lunch during that time period. However, from the abstract book, I am giving the brief report of all technical sessions here. You all will correct me for any mistake/omission of information. ]] This International conference was organized by Udgata, A Multilingual Magazine dedicated to Being and Becoming (of Guwahati Satsang Vihar) in collaboration with Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Foundation, New Delhi. The chairman and secretary general of the seminar organizing committee were respectively Dr. Biplab Loho Choudhury (Associate Professor, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan) and Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul (Member, Assam Public Service Commission). Besides important lectures in the inaugural session and valedictory sessions, the seminar had four technical sessions, prayers and cultural program. The seminar was attended by about 500 participants from Assam, various parts of India, USA, Canada and Bangladesh. Every program in the seminar was very systematic and well organized. Seminar volunteers were very devoted to their assigned duties. Decorations inside the seminar hall and outside (front gate) were very attractive. Food items were also very tasty. Inaugural Ceremony: The inauguration of the seminar started with a prayer song. With the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, the actual inauguration started at around 10 AM At the inaugural ceremony, following distinguished persons were present on the dais: Dr. Biplab Loho Choudhury, Chairman, seminar organizing committee Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul, Secretary general, seminar organizing committee Master Del Pe, USA (masterdelpe), spoke as a special guest, mainly on the importance of ideal guru and following his principles. Dr. Amitabh Kundu, Professor of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University (jnu.ac.in), New Delhi, gave the key note address, specially on humanizing economics and welfare economics issues. Captain Robin Bordoloi, (son of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi), MLA of East Guwahati and Chairman of the Estimates Committee, Assam Assembly. Shri R. M. Patil, Former Deputy Chief Minister, Karnataka Shri Manoj Rastogi, Media and public relations expert (manojrastogi) The seminar abstract book was released by Master Del Pe. Dr. Biplab Loho Chaudhury gave the introduction and objectives of the international seminar. The chief guest His Excellency Sri Janaki Ballav Patnaik, Governor of Assam and Smt. Pramila Rani Brahma (Minister of Agriculture, Assam) could not attend the seminar due to some unavoidable reasons. Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul read out their messages. The inaugural session ended with the formal vote of thanks given by Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul. In his speech, Shri Paul also mentioned about the origin of the idea of this seminar. He spoke that Reverend Babaida (eldest son of Acharyadev Sri Sri Dada, the Pradhan Acharya of Satsang, Deoghar) blessed him in the year 2010 with an instruction to organize international seminar on Sri Sri Thakur’s concepts on Economics and Development. 1st Technical Session was chaired by Prof. Amitabh Kundu. The session theme was on “Towards Humanising Economics: Evolving Man Standard”. Three speakers presented. Shri Jatin Mohanty (Secretary, Satsang Vihar, New Delhi) spoke on “Divine Economy: A Concept of Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra”. Shri Sankar Kumar Mandal (Former Director, Planning and Research, Kolkata Port Trust) presented his paper on “Towards Humanizing Economics: Application Aspect of Man Standard”. Third speaker was Shri Biswajit Paul, Training Consultant, Assam Academic Staff College, Kanapara. Shri Paul spoke on “Considering Effectiveness of Man Standard in Ecologically Sustainable Trans-Generational Human Development”. Some questions-answers followed. 2nd Technical Session The theme of the 2nd technical session was on “Practicing Living-Ideal centric Individual Economics: Preparedness for Developing Communities from Within”. This technical session was chaired by Dr. Sib Ranjan Mishra, Professor, Department of Economics and Politics, Visva Bharati. There were 9 speakers in this session. Hence, 2nd technical session was divided into 1st and 2nd sessions. 1st speaker Dr. Oinam Sareeta Devi (Secretary, Kasturba-Gandhi Institute for Development, Manipur) spoke on “Economic Life of Manipuri Women & Relevance of Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’s Individual Economic Principles”. 2nd Speaker Shri A. R. Patil (Secretary, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Foundation, New Delhi) presented his ideas on “Gandhiji and Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra: Spiritual Power for Development”. 3rd Speaker Dr. Subhas Chandra Bandopadhyay (Organizing Vice-President of Satsang) spoke on “Swastisevak Bahini: Youth as a Development Agent”. 4th Speaker jointly by Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul (Member of Assam Public Service Commission, publisher of Udgata and SPR) and Shri Bhadreshwar Das (whole time worker of Satsang and former Principal, Homeguard Training Institute, Assam) presented on “Instavrity and Swastayani: Economic and Developmental Relevance”. 5th speaker jointly by Shri Vedabhyas Kundu (Program Officer, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samity, New Delhi) and Shri Manoj Rastogi (Media and Public Relation Expert, Founder of Indian CSR Network, Editor of CSR Monitor) spoke on “Promoting Youth Volunteering for Strengthening Global Interconnectedness”. 6th Speaker Dr. Lingaraj Sahoo (Associate Professor, IIT Guwahati) presented his paper on “Swastayani: An Explanation of its scope in individual and social development”. 7th speaker Smt. Laxmi Chakraborty (Associate Professor, Lumding College, Assam) spoke on “Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’s Concepts in Economics and Development in the Context of Human Development Approach”. 8th Speaker Smt. Suchitra Das (Head, Department of Economics, Karimganj College) delivered her lecture on “Human Resource Development and Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra”. 9th speaker Shri Amit Sadhukhan (PhD scholar, CITD, SIS, JNU, New Delhi) presented his paper on “Relevance of ‘Satsang’ in the era of post-modernity”. 3rd Technical Session was chaired by Professor (Dr.) Madan Mohan Paul (faculty in social science, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi). The theme was on “Planning Trans-generational development: In search of own perspectives and its sustained application”. 1st speaker Dr. Surya Narayan Ojha (Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan) spoke on “Situating Modern Technology for India’s Development”. 2nd speaker Dr. Narayan Biswas (Research Officer, Central Silk Board, Coochbehar and Dhoobri) spoke on “Positing agriculture-industry-health hygiene-education & security for ecologically trans-generational sustainable development”. 3rd speaker Dr. Phanindra Goyari (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, University of Hyderabad uohyd.ernet.in) presented his paper on “Agricultural sector in economic development: Perspectives from Sri Sri Thakur’s Philosophy”. 4th speaker was Dr. SK Makbul Islam, Associate professor in Bengali, St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College Kolkata. He spoke on “Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’s Vision on Sustainability”. Some questions and answers followed. 4th Technical Session Had two sections – plenary lectures session and general session. Plenary lectures’ session was chaired by Dr. Savita Singh (Senior consultant and Honorary Professor, School of Gandhian Studies and Peace Research, Dept. of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary studies, IGNOU, New Delhi). The theme was on “Towards Development: Future Courses of Planning and Execution”. 1st speaker Dr. Golam Rahman (Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dhaka University, Bangladesh) spoke on ‘Communicating Rural People for Development: In search of an alternative model”. 2nd speaker Dr. Biplab Loho Choudhury (Associate Professor, Centre for Journalism & Mass Communication, Visva-Bharati at Shantiniketan) presented his paper on ‘Information gap elimination meet (IGEM) series: Ensuring developing communities from within’. Under the general session, following persons spoke: (1) Dr. Arjun Sachidanand (Managing Director, Suddanand Health Care, Mysore) on ‘reaching health services to community on their terms: a model in making, (2) jointly Dr. Saswata Gangopadhyay (Reader and head, Mass Communication Department, University of Burdwan) & Shri Benoy Krishna Hazra (Research Scholar, Mass Communication Department, University of Burdwan) on ‘Development of rural women through communication with special reference to Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’. (3) Shri Utpalendu Mandal (Sr. Lecturer, Dept of Humanities, Birbhum Institute of Engineering & and Technology, Suri, West Bengal) on alleviating poverty and unemployment: current approach, its result and correcting course with Sri Sri Thakur: A study with reference to South Asia’. (4) Dr. Silajit Guha (Assistant Professor, Mass Communication Department, Assam University Silchar) on ‘Ethical Development, Communication and Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’. Master Del Pe (USA), Dr. Susanta Saha (Canada) and Professor Ashutosh Das (Bangladesh) spoke in the seminar observation session. Valedictory Session: As soon as the chief guest entered the meeting hall, the national anthem ‘jana gana mana……’ was sung by all with great respect. The chief guest was His Excellency Shri Ranjit Sekhar Mushahari, Governor, Meghalaya. He delivered a nice speech touching upon dharma, karma and development. His sweet style of speaking combined with nice Sanskrit slokas impressed the audience deeply. Other guests on the dais were Prof. Golam Rahman (Bangladesh), Shri A. R. Patil, Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul and Dr. Biplab Loho Choudhury. Prayer songs were sung including ‘Arya bharata barsho amar…’. The vote of thanks was given by Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul. The valedictory session ended again with the singing of national anthem ‘jana gana mana …..’. In the evening, a colourful cultural program was organized in the seminar hall itself. Buffet dinner was also served by the organizing committee. --------------------
