One Fire Sprinkler Head Controls Fire at Guadalupe Homeless Shelter At 1:47 AM on Tuesday, November 4 , Greeley firefighters were called to the Guadalupe Community Shelter at 1442 N. 11th Ave in Greeley on a fire alarm. When they arrived, fire crews found the building’s occupants, who had been sleeping and awakened by the fire alarm system, standing outside. Fire crews entered the facility and found a single fire sprinkler head holding a dryer fire in check in the laundry room. Fire crews completed the extinguishment and then cleared smoke from the building. The occupants were allowed to re-enter in less than an hour. A fire had started in a dryer. The fire generated enough heat to activate the closest fire sprinkler head causing it to discharge water and keep the fire from spreading. The water flow from the sprinkler then in turn activated the buildings fire alarm system, notifying the occupants to evacuate the building. All systems operated just as designed and prevented a potentially catastrophic fire with approximately 50 sleeping building occupants at risk. The fire was confined to the area of origin and damage was limited to $2,000. All of the building’s occupants were able to exit the building safely and no injuries were reported.
