One Lord Read Acts 9:5 Imagine yourself on a trip to a distant town to complete what will be for you an exciting, fulfilling mission that will mean devastation for many of the people you meet. Suddenly you have a blinding experience that leaves you sightless. Who do you turn to for help? Call 9-1-1? Turn to your nearest companion? Send for your next in command? Saul did none of these. Saul called out to the Lord and he immediately was in contact with the One Lord. It isn’t unusual for people to cry out to the Lord in times of distress. They seem to understand that He is there to help them, but once the crisis has past, things return to normal. Saul had a different response. He was on his way to Damascus with the authority to seize anyone who was of “the Way”. His trip was delayed-forever. Yes, he went to Damascus, but the focus of his trip became the opposite of his original intent. Saul obviously knew of the One Lord, he was a devout Jew. His problem was that until that fateful day he did not accept the fact that Jesus was the One Lord. Accepting the fact that Jesus is really the One Lord can have a phenomenal impact on one. Once Saul accepted the fact that Jesus truly is Lord, he spent the rest of his life serving Him. Life was not easy, in fact serving the One Lord cost him his life. The cost isn’t usually that great for us in a physical sense, but service does require that we live a life of loyalty and devotion. As we used to see on a bumper sticker, “The pay isn’t much but the benefits are out of this world”. --Freeda Holladay, Kannapolis church of Christ
