One Minute Message 10/7/13 Devotional Thought: Jesus gives us reason to “just have faith.” In the larger context of today’s text Jesus is responding in compassion to a father’s request on behalf of a sick daughter to bring her healing. Before they reach the child Jesus encounters a woman who has been suffering with a debilitating condition for about as long as this father’s daughter has been alive—twelve years. If Jesus had “touched” the woman whose ailment involved a bleeding condition he would have been ceremonially unclean. The woman knew this so instead of asking him to lay a healing hand upon her she secretly reached through the crowd and “touched” the hem of Jesus’ garment and was healed. Jesus graciously allowed this and even declared “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.” (Mk. 5:34) This woman too was someone’s daughter. Jairus witnessed this and thereby was given reason to “just have faith” when so encouraged by Jesus. We experience our own times when fear would turn us from following Jesus. That is when we must depend on the reasons the Lord gives us to “just have faith” and continue our journey of discipleship. Devotional Text: Mark 5:35-36 (NLT) 35 While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.” 36 But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid.
