One afternoon, on perhaps our thousandth visit to Daves in Lakeview we chanced upon this gem: High Mountain Hoedowns self titled album on Atco (1970). And what a magnificent find it is, further establishing that between 1967 and 1973, an endless bounty of deep roots music steeped in Americana was being created by young people all over–Alabama to northern California and all points in between. This record was likely loved by a few, but it didnt get the praise bestowed on the Crazy Horse, the Byrds, Poco, Buffalo Springfield, the Band (whom they cover). Does it stand out today? Absolutely. A record thats 44 years old and sounds youthful and sincere, soaring with great musicianship. Here are a few minutes from a cut, lovingly posted by what appears to be a big fan: https://youtube/watch?v=PNG_JBQ4u9U
