One argument I often run into is the one that claims that the reason some people tend to reject the Modern Age (1985 to ?) iteration of DC characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman in favor of the ones published in the Silver Age (1956 to 1970) is because those older versions are far more familiar due to their longevity. This, for instance, is the argument many make for why Supergirl should be Kara Zor-El from Krypton. Well, the Silver Age as it is historically and factually accepted ran for a period of 14 years, from 1956 to 1970. The Modern Age, on the other hand, has existed for a much longer time than that, and in fact no one can really agree on when it ended or if its still going. But for the sake of argument lets say this: the Modern Age began in 1985. If we add in the 14 years that the Silver Age was in print, we come up with 1999. Surely we can agree the Modern Age did NOT end in 1999, right? So, in terms of longevity, surely the Modern Age outlasted the Silver Age, right? In terms of exposure, the same could be said to be true of the Modern Age iterations of these characters, which over the years have become more prevalent in other media.
