One aspect of a paper presented by Mark Pfeifer at the International Coalition of Apostolic Leaders today...Making people’s lives better. That is the work of the gospel. Transformation is more than a conference and spiritual warfare. We should not have a conference or single church gathering and declare that transformation has come as a result. We cannot assume that we have transformed the city just because we have shifted the heavens, pronounced a prophetic word, opened or closed a spiritual window, door or gate and made our decrees. Such naivety has repeatedly disappointed people, produced cynicism and created “hope deferred” in the hearts of many. Those who think they can bring transformation in society by such means do not understand the full measure and scope of transformation and will ultimately wear people out with endless promises and religious activities. Like God told His people in the passage quoted earlier, engaging and changing society is accomplished by those who live their lives in that region, day to day, demonstrating a superior model for marriage, raising kids, handling money, working a job, serving people, conducting business, being a good neighbour, etc. While there is no question that all these spiritual activities are necessary for transformation, relying on them at the expense of training people how to live a successful life in society will render our efforts incomplete.
